Ahhh! We are starting to feel the hint of that fall chill in the air around here most mornings. That means SWEATER WEATHER is right around the corner and September is when we are getting in all our new fall yarns! Be sure to stop by and check out what’s new. Your next project is waiting for you!

September KAL & CAL
Who doesn’t love a one skein project? These cozy hats will be perfect to add a pop of color to your fall outfits and take you right into winter. Made with Lapin from Queensland - a luxury Angora ethically sourced in France and blended with “Cashmere Touch” nylon. It gives that soft halo effect you would get from holding a fluffy mohair with another strand, but even softer and less tangles!
The knit hat (in blue) is the Musselburgh by Ysolda Teague and the crochet version (in red) is the Kroy Socks Beanie, a free pattern! Click the pattern names to be redirected to their Ravelry pages for more pattern details.

We are super excited to be launching a new idea at Henny’s Yarn Shop!
Inspired by a customer who frequently visits our discount room to find yarn for projects she donates, we realized it would be good to set aside a special time each week for those who would enjoy making things to donate to a good cause.
Starting in September, we will be Knitting for a Cause on Fridays from 10:00 to noon.
We will have some free yarn donated from Henny’s stash as well as free patterns and guidelines from each organization we will be supporting.
We’ve chosen a few organizations that accept knit and crochet items and distribute them where they are needed most. See the list of organizations below. Click on the organization name to be redirected to their website to learn more about their mission.
Wool-Aid
Children are our focus, and we work together to provide them with knitted and crocheted wool clothing that can keep them warm, even in the most severe living conditions. We also send knitted, crocheted, and woven blankets to warm the children.
We can't do everything, but we can do this.
We know that our handcrafted items will have a long lifespan in these communities. A wool sweater, for example, will not only keep one child warm for a winter season, but over a period of many years, it will keep several children warm.
Comfort for Critters
An animal's life can be challenging when they find themselves in an animal shelter. Despite heroic efforts by the staff and volunteers, it's extremely stressful as they are moved from cage to cage, and subjected to new sights and sounds on a daily basis.
Having something to call their own, which provides warmth year-round, familiar smells and a soft touch, can make all the difference.
Once the pet is adopted, their blanket provides a cushion against the (wonderful) stress of getting to know their new surroundings and family. Once again, their blanket provides something comforting and familiar.
Knots of Love
❤️ Our mission is to serve The Lord Jesus by providing free handmade gifts of love and warmth to people experiencing chemo induced hair loss and to tiny babies in NICUs across the USA.
❤️ We do this by making and distributing high-quality, hand-knit and crochet beanies (chemo caps) to those battling cancer and tiny NICU blankets to preemie babies in neonatal intensive care units. All beanies & blankets are made by hand and given to patients 100% free of charge, in all 50 states.
❤️ By His grace and the kindness of many, for 19 years, we've been blessed to provide over 700,000 beanies and blankets -- impacting over 4 million lives.
❤️ Our daywear beanies provide style, warmth, and dignity during traumatic hair loss from cancer treatment. Our special sleep caps are worn by patients during the night and naps, to provide warmth and critical relief from hyper-sensitive skin being triggered by even the smallest movement of air over a newly exposed scalp, interrupting much needed sleep.
❤️ The impact is felt deep -- beyond the physical warmth of a hat or blanket -- the most important thing we are blessed to facilitate is: the delivery of love and hope. We see this in the thank you notes and letters from recipients of our hats (chemo caps / beanies) and NICU blankets... who so often tell us how their hearts are warmed and they are inspired because someone they've never met gave their time and love in a selfless act of loving-kindness, at a time when they needed it most. If we are doing our job right, serving The Lord our God by serving others, then that love and hope they feel is God's timing and His love.
Baby Pantries at Local Churches
We are in contact with a few local churches who serve the community by offering free baby supplies to families in need. We will keep a list of needed items at the shop if you’d like to make projects to support these local organizations.
We hope with this variety of international, national, and local organizations, there will be something that speaks to everyone interested in Knitting for a Cause.
Fall is here and we will be restarting our Sock Club and the Sock of the Month!
Sock enthusiasts can join us on Tuesdays at 3:30 and enjoy the company of like minded knitters obsessed with SOCKS!
The Sock of the Month for September is Concavity. This pattern is a variation on the mitered squares concept. Half-completed squares on the front and back of the sock form concave hexagons (hence the name), while the missing tips move to the sides to fill in the gaps. The heel and toe are surprisingly intuitive, and the stretchy garter stitch provides a good fit.
