August at HYS…
Hello! So glad you stopped in to see what’s happening at Henny’s this month :)
For starters, we have a little surprise for the crochet fans out there… During the West Michigan Yarn Quest earlier this summer, we heard over and over again how much the crocheters appreciated that we have several crochet samples in the shop. Well that inspired Henny to challenge herself to making one new crochet sample each month.
AND… We’ve decided to make it into a monthly Crochet-a-long!
Knitters, don’t worry, the KAL won’t be going anywhere. We are just doubling the fun and having two patterns for customers to choose from each month! One knit, and one crochet!
The patterns we’ve chosen this month are Trellis and Stromboli…
Stop by the shop to choose your yarn for either of these August projects and you’ll save 15% with our monthly KAL/CAL discount!
An open front crocheted cardigan from Alison Green that can be dressed up or down with a stitch pattern that mimics cables and lace.
Cardigan is worked from the right sleeve cuff, across the body, to the left sleeve cuff. Side and sleeve seams are sewn and then edgings are worked along the sleeve cuffs, hem, front, and neck edges.
The pattern is available on Ravelry as an individual pattern, or as part of a collection of patterns published in the Berroco #431, Berroco Pima Soft booklet. To see all the patterns included in the book, click HERE.
This Caitlin Hunter pattern is knit from the bottom up in the round, then separated for front and back which are worked flat. After joining the shoulders, sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in the round, either to long or short length as preferred. Finally collar stitches are picked up and worked.

Mark your calendar for August 25 and join us for the final concert in the summer series. We are proud to be sponsoring the show that night. Bring your knitting and crochet projects too! It’s always a great evening of live music and food truck eats!
Coming Soon…
Charity Knitting at Henny’s Yarn Shop
Starting in September you can join us on Fridays from 10:00 am to noon for our new Charity Knitting Sessions. We have a few ideas for organizations that accept donated knitted items. But we are looking for a few more ideas. If you know of a great organization that we could support, please reach out to let us know! Keep an eye out for more details to come!
New fall yarns always arrive at the end of August! So keep watching for that on our Instagram and Facebook pages ;)
