October at HYS…
As we start feeling the shift from the almost summer like days of September to the cooler days of October, we thought a couple of vest options would be great for this month’s Knit A Long. We have two beautiful versions at the shop to inspire you! Check them out below :)
October KAL
You get to choose between two patterns from PetiteKnit - the simple and classic Stockholm Slipover V-Neck, shown below in blue, and the textured Sille Slipover, shown in gold. You’ll save 15% on your yarn for the monthly KAL. Click on the pattern names on the photos below to be directed to their Ravelry pattern pages for more details.
The Stockholm Slipover also comes in a crewneck version and both the Stockholm and the Sille come in “mini” and “junior” sizes on Ravelry so you have a lot of choices. But if neither of these are what you’re looking for, feel free to bring in any vest pattern and save 15% on yarn with the KAL discount!
The Stockholm Slipover V-neck has a V-shaped neckline and is worked from the top down. First, the back part of the yoke is worked, then the front shoulders and finally the body. The Stockholm Slipover V-neck has slanting shoulders that create a good fit and which are shaped using short rows. Rib edges are worked along the V-neck edge and armhole edges, and the edges are finished with an Italian bind-off.
The Sille Slipover is worked from the top down in a knit and purl structure pattern. First the back yoke is worked, then the shoulders, and then the front yoke are worked flat. After this, the front and back yoke are joined and the body is worked in the round, and finally rib edges are worked along the neck and armhole openings.

New Yarns!
Introducing a brand new offering from NORO… Akeboshi
Named for the “morning star,” Akeboshi evokes that fleeting moment before sunrise, when the sky is still shadowed but the first hints of color begin to break through. Deep, grounded tones form the foundation of the yarn, while lively flecks and shifting strands of color appear unexpectedly throughout, like sparks of light scattered across the early morning sky. The result is a fabric with remarkable depth, movement, and the unmistakable artistry of Noro. A luxurious blend of 85% wool and 15% silk gives Akeboshi warmth and substance, balanced by the soft luster and fluidity of silk. Its gently varied texture adds dimension to even the simplest stitches, allowing stockinette, garter stitch, cables, and textured patterns to develop an organic, richly layered appearance. Each generous 150-gram ball contains approximately 295 yards, making Akeboshi an inspiring choice for statement sweaters, sculptural cardigans, cozy jackets, hats, scarves, and accessories. Bold yet beautifully nuanced, it is a yarn for projects that feel both grounded and luminous, with every stitch revealing another unexpected detail.
We are super excited to have INFINITY from Lang at the shop. This is the first color-changing yarn we have in a worsted weight. We also have a coordinating pattern booklet with a beautiful selection of knit and crochet patterns that feature this special yarn.
INFINITY is a single ply yarn made with extrafine merino wool, notable for a unique colour design. Each ball is made in such a way that there is no pattern repeat - the same colours appear again and again, but at irregular intervals, in a different sequence and with varying intensity.
Whilst it is also suitable for accessories, INFINITY shows its full potential in larger projects such as garments and blankets, where the colourfulness creates a stunning visual experience. Ideal for creatives who appreciate individuality, INFINITY will transform any project into a masterpiece.
And can you believe it’s time to start thinking about gift knitting for the upcoming holiday season? Yep, we peeked ahead at the calendar and our annual Countdown to Christmas Knits one skein wonder patterns will start dropping weekly in the middle of this month. Keep an eye on our socials and your inbox for a new idea each week from mid-October through December.
